Business Tasks to Complete When You Have Time to Work ON Your Business

A lot of wedding planners have found themselves with unexpected free time right now. And, while we fully encourage you to take time off and focus your energy on your family and self, it is also important to allot some of the time to your business—to, you know, take care of all of those things you never had time to in the past? So today, we wanted to share our thoughts about how you can get your professional house in order during the forced downtime. Read on for 6 business tasks you should take care of before you find yourself without the time again.

Audit Your Brand

In addition to making updates to your color palette and logo, we encourage you to take a good look at every aspect of your brand. If there are any places you can make updates, use this time to refine your brand.

  • Review your branding: your fonts, logo, colors, etc. Does it fit where your company is now? Does it need a refresh or a whole new look?

  • Review your website and update images and copy as needed. Is all your best work easy to find? Is your messaging inclusive and welcoming? Are the SEO settings on your website complete and is your copy optimized?

  • Review your social media pages: are they up to date with your current information, branding, best images?

Reach Out For Reviews

If you are anything like us, staying on top of asking for reviews can get away from you. But, since you aren’t flooded with emails at the moment, why not sit down and make those requests? Contact past clients for reviews about what it was like to work with you as well as current clients to ask for words about what planning your wedding during COVID has been like and then incorporate them onto your website and into your social media content plan.

Review Your Financials

With most events on hold until 2021, your income has shifted even more so than your calendar. So, one of the smartest things you can do right now is review your business financials and update your projections. We know this sounds intimidating, but that’s why we put together a free resource to help you! You can download our Know Your Numbers worksheet here to help get yourself organized.

Reconnect With Vendors

Building and maintaining strong relationships is more important than ever, so if you have fallen out of touch with some of your vendor contacts or want to reach out to new ones, now is the time to get those virtual coffee dates on the calendar!

Check In With Your Team

It takes a village to pull off an event and your team and support staff are vital to your success! Whether it’s regularly checking in with your associates and assistants or touching base with the people who make up your support staff, be sure to let them know you are there for them. Many people are having to reevaluate things, move, and find different jobs because of events being on hold, so the people you have come to rely on may be in transition. For those who will still be a part of your team next year, consider planning a virtual team summit to reconnect and have some fun over the next few months.

Make The Venue Rounds

The hospitality industry has been hit especially hard, so the people you have come to know and work with at your favorite venues may no longer be there. Take some time to make the rounds with your contacts to see who is still there, how they are doing, and what plans are taking shape. Find out who the new event coordinators, catering managers, and Directors of Events are so that when you are able to plan an event there, you know who to contact.
